THINK PIECE

Just think:

Some poor kid's got December 7th as his birthday.

Some child - through no fault of his own -

(just because his parents were trying to keep warm

at the end of winter

just because his dad wanted to make microcosm

of the season:

in like a lion - out like a lamb?

just because his mom

didn't have the self-respect

or the self-restraint

to HOLD HIM IN for another few hours

{after nine months, what's the big deal?})

is left with a birthdate that's somber

and embarrassing

and depressing.

No gifts of pearl for this boy.

No joyous declamations

no riotous parties

simply somber reflection

just because of when he was born.

It makes you think, don't it?
