CULMINATION

When we meet

at the library

to return the books

it will be the last act

we commit together

as a couple

for the foreseeable future.

It is our culmination

our ultimate opportunity

to end things

on a pleasant note.

When we come together

this last time

we can be polite

and discrete

or we can air our laundry

share our troubles

with the entire silent population.

I know what I would do

but I don't know

if you have the courage

to join me

one last time

for one last hurrah.
