DRINK UP

Our cups appear similar

as we drink from them

together

after so long apart.

We share a brew long unswilled

though frequently recalled.

We had good times

we two

with these spirits

back then.

From our cups

effervescence escapes

excitement pouring out

flowing, bursting

spraying us, soaking

if perhaps not impacting.

We face our fluids

and we down them

as we experience each other

differently

than back then:

soberly

solidly

strangely.

We have our yesterdays

but our present

is tentative

like a bubble

from the beverage

in our cups.
