APRIL SHOWERS
The shower, ice-cold,
rains down,
like the early Spring showers
we shared,
when we spoke
of important things.
We carried no umbrellas,
unprepared for the shocker storm.
We didn't realize
what was to come.
I didn't.
Pelted with icy droplets,
I ached,
but not half as much
as after our
talk.
I needed warmth
for weeks afterward,
but could find it nowhere,
thought I'd never feel fire
like yours again.
Now, those melodramas have closed
and I've felt heat
every now and again
- though, of course,
never like yours.
But whatever winter throws,
and however icy this shower may become,
I don't think I'll ever feel
quite as cold as last Spring.
