TO COME


I face the future anxiously
fearfully
fully aware that something
anything
can go wrong
and will.


I look ahead nervously
panicked at what I'll find
in the days to come.


I foresee days of danger
midnights filled with nightmares
hours of everlasting anguish.
I predict bad things ahead
worse than I've seen so far.


I do not look forward to what is coming
I fear it.
I do this
because of experience
and wisdom
but mostly
I am terrified of the future
because of what has past.
