OUR LOT

What has been done

cannot be undone.

Our beds, made

must be laid in

for the generations to come.

And if we try to deny culpability

escape responsibility

it will not change our fates

but just make us look stupid.

I don't want to be stupid

but I don't want this future

and I wish there were some way

to revisit time

to go back

and fix our grievous errors

rectify our history.

But we cannot turn back

there is no clause to offer restitution

or rescue.

Hindsight will not allow us

new opportunities.

We cannot look back.

There is nothing for us there.

Only forward may we see

into our future must we stare blindly.
