ISLAND
The stranger crying on the street
sings silently
at an octave
that no one is willing to hear.
We will dance and dash
in ignorance, around her
insuring so association
with her pain,
her porous seeping fluids
her dying cries
subtle, soft,
upon the street.
The thin girl
on Broadway, alone
is unaware of her effect
upon her environment,
a newly formed island
separated by so little
from those around her.
