BOOK OF US

That restaurant where we went

that time,

the one with the oversized bathroom

and the scented soaps

and too much wine

and a lifetime ban on us

ever going in again

has closed down.

The bar where we met

is gone, too.

And that movie theater

where we saw...

what was it?

Doesn't matter.

It's a Five and Dime now.

It appears that our past,

the history that brought us

to that culminating climax,

has passed.

There are no records

of what we did

save a soggy receipt

and black and white memories.

Even more than before

the book of us

has been closed.

I had nothing to do

with the restaurant closing

or the theater

or the bar.

I just wanted you to know.
