THIS THING

This thing that I'm doing

this invasion I plan

it places me somewhere I've visited

never considered

never imagined.

This thing that I'm doing

this place that I go

it frightens and bewilders

as it excites and embarrasses

and leaves me exhausted

all in anticipation.

I don't know what I'm doing - with this thing

but I know where I'm going.

I am a stranger in a strange land

enduring new and exotic hardships

in this new quest

to reach your front door

and finally approach you.

This thing that I'm doing

this attempt that I make

will fail or live on your whim.

It all rests with you

and whether you let me take your hand.
