CONEY ISLAND
Come on, let me take you
Let's go down to Neptune Ave
where there's nothing left to see.
It's the City at the Edge
and little is remaining
that could possibly remind us
we are part of civilization.
It's a land that's past its time.
The boulevards are broken
and we stride them like young giants
as we watch a place polluted
by its age and history.
There's so little to remind us
of the glory that has passed
and you wonder why I visit?
It's no mystery to me.
I long for ghost time vapors
that Poseidon and his sea-folk
offer up as dim remembrance
of a life long left behind.
With so little to remind us
all we hear's imagination
of a land who's days legend
but are crumbled dust today.
Let that dust be washed away
as we walk the empty boardwalk
with the natives and the tourists
neither whom disturb our path.
The waves beside us lap up
everything that was forgotten
and the City and its glory
are gone forevermore.
