TURBULENCE

We are all going to die

today

within moments

of this very declaration.

How stupid of us

to believe that we could defy the skies

become like gods

fly through clouds with impunity?

Have we learned nothing from Icarus

who dared too much

too quickly

and realized so soon

his shortcomings?

We are doomed to fail

on this score

as so many others.

Our hubris is too great

today

and all others.

We thought we could

become masters of the air

and conquer the last of the elements.

We hoped for so much

only to realize

a little turbulence

could prove the error of our ways.
