LOOKING BACKWARD

In years to come

when we look back upon these days

in our crossed rocking chairs

looking out upon the patio

of the sunset of our years

attaining silver and golden hues

we no doubt

doubted we'd ever find

as we age and imagine

all the things that had happened to us

all the paths we took to get here

the lies and the tears

the financial arrears

and the people we crushed

to reach this level of satisfaction

as we consider what we will have had to do

to survive

to thrive

to become what we desired all those years ago

now

will we decide that we earned reprieve?

Will our every infidelity have been worth it?
