HISTORY TEACHES

We lie

forgotten

beneath a lifetime of dust

of ash

of incinerated remains.

None shall recall our sacrifice

our sad demise

our desecration

at the hands of unnatural fate.

Who would have thought it would come to this

this atrocity

this horror

this post-Darwinian survival of brutish?

Who could imagine

that we would die here

less than dirt

forgotten

our conquerors burning away

even the memories of us?

We are like those Italians

long-gone

eradicated

until further mayhem

brought the crimes to light.

Who shall inform on us?

How shall our tales be known?

Who shall remember our ashes?
