AN INSTANT IN THE SUN

The cone dribbles from the table

down to the salty sand

commingling its essence

with its antithesis.

The sweet and the savory

become one

like a natural chocolate covered pretzel

that no one would enjoy.

Had I maintained perseverance

and held the cream aloft

it would never have lost its integrity

never conjoined with the ground.

But now before me, irreparably

lies both a ruined treat

and a slightly stained inch

of beachfront property.
