MACHINE PARTS

'We are not like machine parts,'

she once said

'interchangeable and easily fixed.

We are organic

and frail

and we break very easily.'

And I wondered about her words

after she left

leaving me rudderless.

As she remained away

my engine leaked

and my transmission fell

and I found myself

unable to go anywhere

to do anything...

'Like a machine,'

I thought

smileless

blank and blue

'a robotic man.'

But even now

with time's ability to heal

and my remainingly crippled equipment

I find myself suddenly willing

to race - to hurtle

toward you.
