THE HUNT

Eventually

if we do our job too well

hunting, slaying,

flaying, desiccating

and thus decimating

we will do our job so well

that well be out of work.

If we hunt

with such verve

if we fail to swerve from our destination

if our dedication remains as resolute

as it is today

well be done.

Well have finished.

Is that a good thing?

Is this what was meant

when we were sent off

to conquer

to multiply

to try our wills

against the elements

when we sought to become masters of this world?

When we succeed

completely

what will we have earned?
