DEAD CAT
On the corner
the cat remains.
It lies in position
as it has these last two weeks
a single-headed, stiff Cerberus
keeping all sorts of invisibles
out of the neighborhood.
It protects us
from ghosts
from storms
from elephants
- where was the last wild elephant you saw?
Not here!
The cat saves us
from a variety of villains.
It keeps us safe
this white cat
still, silent
on the corner.
