PUT PAID

The letters you sent

have been thrown to the fire

burning long and well

creating much heat

and warmth

for all in the house to enjoy.

It's been a cold winter

and your letters

have helped put paid

to its fury.

So even though I have not responded

have not sent word to you

in any way

for three years

do not believe

that in any way

your letters are unappreciated.

Despite the words I continued to not say

I hope you continue to write.
