FEAR

I do not watch scary movies

or ride of roller coasters

or read Stephen King

or visit Queens

because I don't need to get my kicks

by getting my thrills.

My heart beats fast enough on its own, thank you.

I do not let fear entertain me.

So why am I here

at the theater

for this nightmare triple feature?

Because, I think,

my fear of being afraid

is nothing compared to what I'd feel

if I were away from you

the thought of which, frankly, terrifies me.
