TALKIN TO GOD

I was talking to God the other day

and I said

"You're an outdated concept

an opiate for the masses

in a world where a thousand and one opiates

more effectively satisfy

our massive needs."

I said

"We have no use for you.

We needed you in olden times

when we have no understanding of our world

our selves

but now we have improved

are our own masters

and we require no one god before us.

You are extraneous to our lives. We don't need you."

I told God, 'Whether you're Lord, or Allah, or Yahweh

or Elvis

we have better things to do with our days

more concrete ways to while away our time

than think of you.

Faith is for suckers.

We no longer need to believe in belief.

You are an outdated concept."

And God said, "Is there nothing I can do

to prove to you

that Faith has a place in This Man's World

that I am still needed by the people?"

And I told him "No."

And I was wrong.
