when we were young

our adventures hardly begun

out early battles not yet won

our greatest songs not yet sung?

You remember how we looked at each other

and swore that together

we would rule the world?

Conquest and accomplishment would be ours for the pocketing

we would glory in a world of our making

a life for the taking

we would take what we wanted

and leave the rest to the wolves.

Who would have thought

who could have imagined

who might conceive

how it all developed?

You remember those bygone

long-ago days

do you not?

how the future looked so open

and clear

and accomplishable?

None of this is forgotten to you
