END OF AN ERA
I didn't cry
when Lennon was murdered.
I didn't care.
When Babylon Five went off the air,
I did not fall apart.
It barely mattered to me.
I ignored Johnny Carson's culmination
and was blind to Woolworth's closing.
Signs of the apocalypse,
left and right,
evidence of an era's end, all,
I inferred as irrelevant.
Those institutions that now,
weathered and wiser,
I find most treasured,
all were discounted
as they occurred.
And now,
I spend all my days
wondering, worried,
what I may miss next.
